Peter has performed with such artists as: Luciano Pavorotti, Placido  Domingo, Joan Sutherland, Jose Carreros, Andrea Bocelli, Jessye Norman, Stanley Black, Michelle Legrand, Herbie Hancock, Kurt Elling, Billy Cobham, Christian Mcbride and Lalo Schiffrin

Peter has studied with some of the worlds finest  Tuba teachers/players including Arnold Jacobs, Michael Lind, Roger Bobo, Ian King and John Woods.

His many solo performances with the Adelaide Symphony include the world premiere of “Stoccata”, a  piece written for Peter by Elena Kats-Chernin for  the 2006 Adelaide Festival.

Peter has enjoyed a long association with Brass Bands since beginning tuba with the Circular Head Municipal Band (Tasmania) in 1969. In 2001 the Australian Band World magazine compiled their “Band of the Century” featuring the finest players from all over Australia over the 20th Century – Peter was chosen as principal E flat tuba.

In 2006, ABC Classics released worldwide the CD “Tuba Concertos” featuring Whish-Wilson  with the Adelaide Symphony.

This was the first ever full length recording entirely devoted  to Solo Tuba with orchestra anywhere in the world. One of the tracks from this CD was included on ABC FM’s listeners poll  “The Classic 100 Concerto List” in which listeners voted for the  100 concerti they couldn’t live without.

Peter is currently midway through recording another solo CD  to be completed later this year.

Peter is proud to be a Yamaha artist, and chooses to play a Yamaha Maestro YEB 632 tuba.

“I love the way my Maestro YEB 632 responds. The high register needs so little effort that it almost plays itself, while the pedal range is beautifully responsive. The valves are super fast and clean, and the Maestro itself whilst being physically lighter than other EEb tubas that I have played over the years, doesn’t compromise on its rich, full sound in any way.”
